Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), is an advocacy group dedicated to United States veterans of the War in Iraq and War in Afghanistan. Founded in 2004, IAVA the first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for new veterans. With over 200,000 Member Veterans and supporters nationwide, IAVA's role is to support the 2.4 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. ==Executive Director and Founder==
Paul Rieckhoff is the group's Executive Director and Founder. He served as a First Lieutenant and infantry rifle platoon leader in the Iraq war from 2003-2004. He is also the author of ''Chasing Ghosts.'' Prior to going to Iraq, Rieckhoff worked as a high school football coach and on Wall Street. He received a B.A. in Political Science from Amherst College in 1998 and lives in New York City.
